He Momi

He Momi for QHS is a collection of articles that introduce Hawaiian words or short phrases through moʻolelo, or stories. He Momi, a pearl, is a metaphor for a Hawaiian word. Much like the precious nature of a pearl, the hope is that by learning a little bit, just a little bit, small as a pearl, about a Hawaiian word, and how that word or phrase may connect to our mission, healthcare, Hawaiian history or culture, you will be able to sew many pearls together into a beautiful lei that you can keep close to your poli, your bosom.

Sovereignty, independence, life.
Companion, friend, associate.
To remember, to commemorate.

Our Commitment to Hawaiʻi

Our mission is to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawaiʻi. We achieve this through our vision of being the preeminent health care system of the Pacific by providing superior patient care that is continually advanced through education and research.
